Freesat & Sky HD Price War

In the last quarter of 2008, 200,000 Freesat boxes flew off the shelves, converting thousands of homes from paid Sky subscribers into Freesat viewers, giving them the ability to finally watch High Definition content on their LCD & Plasma HDTVs. Sky are starting to respond by lowering the cost of their Sky+HD service.

Ok, so it still costs the best part of ~£350 to get Sky+HD installed, along with a subscription charge, but then you do get more choice and the ability to record TV thanks to the Sky+ package. Bearing in mind the only currently available DVR Freesat box is the Humax Foxsat HDR coming in at £299, Sky+HD is still priced competitively bearing in mind you get Sky One plus other channels, but we reckon it won't be long before other DVR Freesat boxes appear on the scene at much cheaper prices.
