Despite concerns that Call of Duty: Black Ops wouldn't do as well as Modern Warfare 2, one could say it has actually held its own. One million players were logged on at one given time to play the new game, making for impressive figures on launch day. Steam figures proved that the multiplayer mode of Black Ops peaked at 77,609 players at one point eclipsing PC stalwart titles like CounterStrike.
Early sales figures for the game suggest that over seven million units were sold on day one, which would make for the largest release in history. The US represents 3.6 million of those units, while 1.4 million were sold in the UK, over a million in Europe and 350,000 in Canada. Xbox 360 seems to have sold the most of the Black Ops game coming in at 59% of the proportion. With statistics like these, Black Ops will be 10% more popular than the launch of Modern Warfare 2 last year.
