Apple Bans iTunes Hacker - Urges You To Change Your Password!

As we reported on Monday, it appears as though iTunes was hacked by a Vietnamese con artist. Apple are stating that iTunes data was not compromised, so we can only assume the hacker found another way to exploit the system.

But it doesn't add up at the end of the day, because iTunes users have had their accounts debited and Apple are advising any affected users to contact their banks if they find any unauthorised transactions on their statements.

In an official statement Apple have said:

"If your credit card or iTunes password is stolen and used on iTunes we recommend that you contact your financial institution and inquire about cancelling the card and issuing a chargeback for any unauthorized transactions. We also recommend that you change your iTunes account password immediately."

The big question is, how can approximately 400 active iTunes user accounts be accessed and purchase app store content without any kind of hacking, is Apple lying? or could ANYBODY do this without the need to compromise the system?

The only other possibility would be if user data had been leaked from Apple and Thuat Nguyen (the hacker in question) managed to obtain the information and purchase all the apps himself one by one.

It all sounds a bit cloak and dagger wouldn't you agree?
