The Pioneer TV Range
|
Pioneer are cool, very cool. And because they are so cool they have stubbornly stuck to just doing plasmas. What’s not cool is that they have made our lives as consumers very difficult, by sticking on a load of morse-code type numbers and letters to the model numbers. Well, here at Unbeatable we took on the challenge of seeking a method to pioneer’s model number madness and we thought we’d let you in on the results. HD-Ready Plasmas What’s available? In order of release: PDP-607XD - New in 2007 PDP-42670XD What do these model numbers mean? Let’s break it up….. PDP = Plasma display panel 506 / 436 / 615 / 5000 = The first two numbers are the screen size, for example 506 is a 50” screen, the last number is the generation that it belongs to. XDE / FDE / SXE / RXE / EX = These letters distinguish plasmas from each other in terms of their specification. For example: PDP436RXE without integrated tuner & PDP436SXE with Integrated digital tuner. So, these two plasmas are exactly the same but one doesn’t feature a digital tuner. Are there any other reasons for different the model letters? Yes, Pioneer decided to make their plasmas unique by providing a separate box which houses all the inputs and outputs. The method to Pioneer’s madness is in their belief that the separate box makes the plasmas easier to install and neater to look at. How does this change the model number? Quite often the model number will vary dependant on the shade of colour of the separate box. For example take these model numbers: PDP436FDE PDP436XDE One has an integrated tuner and two scarts as a pose to just one. Another difference is the slight colour variance of the separate box, changing the model letters. Do all Plasmas have a separate box? No, some Pioneer Plasmas will specify that they are all-in, this means that all the connections are in-built. Which ones are in-built and which ones have a separate box?
Have any of Pioneer’s plasmas won awards? Yes, if you want an award winning plasma to take pride of place in your lounge, get your hands on the PDP-506XDE, it won the EISA Best Product 2005/06 award. So, I hope we’ve cleared that up for you, why not go and have a look at Pioneers gorgeous plasma TV range. |
