Is it possible to get the audio from ordinary TV playing through my samsung home theatre system as well as dvd's.How do i doi it?

Connect HT-Q100 Home theatre to LE26S8 LCD TV I am unable to get surround sound with my TV channels. I have connected the above with HDMI cable. The DVD plays through the TV and the surround sound works ok. The Playstation plays through the TV and the surround sound works ok. However, the surround sound will not work with the TV channels BBC1,BBC2, ITV etc. When I press the HDMI audio button on the remote control, only 'on and off' appear on the display. It does not display the word HDMI. Can you please advise possible solution?
