Advice on Buying a DVD

I have never had a DVD or freeview. I know I want a DVD with Freeview, with a hard drive to record to, with EPG and one where I can watch tv and record at the same time. I also quite fancy being able to pause programmes and being able to record programmes that filter out the adverts. However these last 2 features are not essential. I rarely buy new technology so I want one that will last for a long time. However, there is so much choice I am just overwhelmed and don't know what to buy. What would people recommend I buy?
Check that you can receive Freeview transmissions, then look at SONY RDR HXD 870. for starters. Check through this site for the range of devices.
