What is Freeview?

It is the new, free digital service providing up to 30 free digital TV channels, over 20 digital radio stations plus a new whole world of interactive services. It's broadcast from transmitters and received via a rooftop aerial. It works like traditional TV but because the signals are Digital you need a box to convert them (or a new Digital TV with all the technology already built-in). This means more channels can be transmitted with extra features such as interactivity and widescreen pictures.
1. What about the boxes?
You make just one payment from around £40 depending on the Set Top Box you purchase and that's it, no subscription and no fees to pay.
2. What do I need to do?
Before you purchase your Set Top box we recommend you check your FreeView coverage area by typing in your postcode on the following FreeView webpage link. You can then purchase your Set Top Box from us, connect the box to your existing TV and aerial, switch it on and you're away. Free extra top quality programes at a touch of a button.

Digital television more commonly known as iDTV – integrated Digital TV. IDTV can receive the free-to-air digital TV channels from the FREEVIEW service without the aid of a separate set top box.

1. 30 FREE digital channels
– With iDTV you get FREEVIEW, giving you 30 free extra digital TV channels including digital radio stations. These are all included in your TV license fee.
2. Electronic Programme Guide – View 8 days of TV listings at one time with the electronic programme guide (EPG) and simply select and click on the programmes you wish to record.
3. Widescreen Viewing mode – As nearly all TV programmes are produced in widescreen format (16:9 format) you can now watch your favourites without those annoying black bands on either side the screen.
4. Perfectly clear digital reception – The digital signal for iDTV comes straight through your aerial without interference resulting in crystal clear digital reception.
5. Future proof – With analogue reception switch off in the near future (projected dates below) you’ll need to invest in iDTV to make sure you can continue receiving the channels you do now, otherwise you may end up with a very blank screen.
When shopping for your digital television look out for the ‘Freeview’ logo or Sony’s equivalent ‘Digital Tick’ logo.
Proposed timetable for analogue switch-off is:
2008: HTV Wales, Westcountry, Border
2009: HTV West, Granada, Grampian, Scottish TV
