DVD Recorders and DVD Players
Every home should have one as the perfect accompaniment to your widescreen TV and Home Theatre System. The High Definition format has very much taken over the VHS world that we used to live in. The war between the two formats of this kind is now well and truly over with HD DVD dying a slow death and Blu-Ray taking over the world of this format.
Blu-ray discs offer a significant amount of storage space, such as 50GB of storage on a dual layer disc, and will play footage for approximately 4.5 hours. Blu-ray is the next generation DVD which can store, record and playback high def video and audio along with computer data and the advantage of Blu-ray is the amount of information it holds.
Some manufacturers wised up to the war between the two formats and developed a dual player combining both HD DVD and Blu-Ray for example the LG BH100 will play both formats as will the Toshiba HD-XE1, see our reviews for more details.

Toshiba’s DVD Upgrade to Blu-ray standards Toshiba were knocked out of the HD DVD/Blu-ray war earlier this year when Sony’s Blu-ray took the lead and the DVD market with its high quality image standards compared to that of HD DVD. Although HD DVD quality is still impressive, Blu-ray managed to pip it to the post, however with high prices for Blu-ray players and discs it hasn’t took off as it was expected to do and therefore Toshiba appear to be taking the chance of exploiting them by introducing anew HD DVD format. |
